Job Description
This is a direct hire role with a client for a Stamping Tool Design Engineer.
Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) candidate would be a plus
Essential Functions
Conceptualize, design, develop, and validate new stamping dies and tooling to support manufacturing based on engineering drawings and production forecasts.
Maintain complete CAD drawings and documentation Manage construction of tooling: supporting manufacturing, tracking project metrics, updating project team of progress
Manage supply of tooling from outside vendors, including preparation of technical documents, quotations, vendor selection, support as required, and validation of new tooling.
Act as the point of contact (internal/external) on new tooling projects - requires the ability to interface with external vendors/tool suppliers
Familiarize oneself with existing tooling, evaluate existing tooling and process demands, update as necessary
Lead tooling lifecycle management, including maintenance and inspection schedules and criteria, repair/rebuild programs, replacement strategy, and inventory of spare tools and components
Support plant engineering and maintenance with tooling related questions
Support and advise tooling design teams at other locations (priority to the Mexico facility at present time)
Qualifications
Bachelor's or Associate's degree and 5-10+ years of experience in the field or related area (metal stamping)
Ability to manage workload and priorities; self-motivated to work autonomously and spearhead projects
Advanced knowledge of manufacturing and tool shop processes, particularly stamping and DFM
Ability to manage complex tooling projects independently based on experience
Strong mechanical ability - must be very hands-on; machining experience is a huge plus
3D CAD experience a must, CAM experience a plus
Understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance)
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products
Strong, upbeat personality; leadership mentality, assertive, with a sense of urgency.
Willing to lead and mentor others
Excellent communication skills: must be able to easily convey technical ideas to non-technical customers; someone who is capable of interacting with individuals via phone, email, and in person regarding a multitude of concepts
Innovation and resourcefulness are essential: this person will move with the times and embrace change
Competency in 3D and 2D design software (Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD preferred)
Adaptability and flexibility are essential: will design products and interact with customers on a daily basis
Willingness to travel when the need arises (up to 50%) both domestic and international
